Hi, sweet friends! I can’t begin to explain just how excited I am for it to finally be Friday. Somehow, “short” weeks start to feel long on the very last day and I am 110%, without a doubt, feeling that. This week, we celebrated one full month of being in the new house. It still feels weird to call a new place “home” after so much moving and shaking the past 2ish years but I am feeling beyond grateful to have a little bit of stable ground under my feet (ICYMI, lots of life updates here & here & here). I’m about 85% through unpacking and have recently been focused on designing, organizing and making the space truly feel like a home. As with my Austin apartment, I’m on a silly little timeline of wanting to get 80% of the house “done” in the first 4-6 months. I don’t expect us to leave anytime soon but the sooner the house is the set, the sooner it will feel like my home. Plus, I am so ready to host friends and family for dinner parties, long weekends and morning coffee catch-ups.
As always, the new office was the first place on my list to get in order and what other way to get the creative juices flowing than getting an office bar – duh! In so many of my favorite house tours, the offices included some type of bar, either built in or on a car, cabinet or table.
Because I’m now in a historic home, I wanted to find a bar that had some age on it to lean into the historic features of the house. Luckily, I found a really great Habitat for Humanity Restore locally and on my second visit, scored this great Broyhill night stand for under $80. It honestly needs a good cleaning but the size is perfect to have a bar on top and to use the closed storage for candles, cocktail napkins and extra hosting silverware.
Atop of the bar, I styled one side with a table book stack, bowl of lemons and a small lamp. I found this lamp via Facebook Marketplace back in Austin and have been waiting for a small space to display its beauty. On the bar side, I grabbed at least one bottle of each type of liquor so all drinks are an option: gin, tequila, vodka, whiskey, mezcal and liqueur. With two rocks glasses, a jigger and a few extra ingredients, the bar side is all set. Last, I added a small marble bud vase and filled it with some forged stems from around the neighborhood to bring height and more color to this small space.
Overall, I am absolutely loving how this small project turned out. While the office, along with the rest of the house, is still a work in progress, having one small thing done motivates me to tackle the next project. With a new desk, peel & stick wallpaper being installed and a large plant in the corner, the office will be the first room “finished” in truly perfect timing.
There are so many more updates happening daily around the house and I always share sneak peeks over on instagram stories. I’ll also need y’alls advice on more spaces given that there is so much room to play with and we hope to be here for a while making all the updates, decor and time spent well worth it.
Thanks so much for reading friends! Catch you all very, very soon ❤️ xoxo, azanique
