Happy Monday, sweet friends! I can hardly believe that May is quickly coming to an end and MDW is upon us. My birthday was last week and although it wasn’t a milestone birthday, I was excited to celebrate a little more than I could last year. I still had my share of adulting on the actual day but having the next morning to sleep in and read in peace was a much needed break from reality. Adulting…am I right?
Speaking of adulting, I have, like I’m sure many of you, been thinking about what the summer will bring. The state of the world is shifting in many ways and now that the pearly doors of outside are starting to open, three (personal, and very vain) things have been on my mind: 1. Time to get back in shape 2. Time to get ALL the things I’ve put off on my to-do list actually done and 3. Time to start wearing make-up again. I’m slowly easing my way into all three and with so many new foundations hitting the market, I figured why not start there? Today, I’m rounding up 3 recent foundations I’ve tried and my overall thoughts on them.
Foundation 1: FENTY BEAUTY by Rihanna Eaze Drop Blurring Skin Tint – Shade 22
I am slightly ashamed to say that this is my first Fenty Beauty product! With the heat and humidity of summer, I was on the hunt for a lightweight foundation or tined moisturizer for 5 minute makeup. This was the same week that Eaze Drop Blurring Skin Tint came to Sephora during the annual sale. Shade 22 is a 9/10 match for me and perfectly light weight. The only downside for my combination skin is that this skin tint dries down really fast. I found myself spritzing my face several times through the day to avoid looking super dry. In true tint fashion, this tint will not cover any dark marks or scars without layering. Which, of course, defeats the purpose of a light tint. I apply everything with a wet beauty blender but this tint is so light that you can apply with your fingers and pat in. Altogether, I’m super happy with the shade match options and think this tint is a great summer solution. If you’re naturally dry, I would recommend over hydrating pre-application and applying with a damp sponge.
Foundation 2: Skin By Mented – Shade D30
If you guys have been around for a while, you’ll know that I actually found Mented Cosmetics via Jackie Aina. She R A V E D about their blushes as the perfect compliment for darker skin. I figured why not try their foundation sticks while I was already checking out. As a disclaimer, I totally think I had the wrong shade. Shade D30 looked like a fit for me online but in person, it was a little more yellow than I liked. I am planning to pick up another shade but still wanted to share with experience with the application. To be fair, I will say that foundation sticks are my favorite makeup inventions! It’s by far the easiest to apply and even easier to target the areas that need more coverage. The application is super smooth and although 6/10 on the lightweight scale, this foundation is buildable. You can also use this product to contour or conceal, due to the thicker consistency. Overall, I would recommend to others especially for travel. This is a spill proof foundation solution that takes no time to settle into the skin and is easy to re-apply throughout a long day.
Foundation 3: Rare Beauty Liquid Touch Weightless Foundation – Shade 560W
Hands down, my latest fav! I am usually not a fan of celebrity beauty lines but I was itching to try out Rare Beauty by Selena Gomez. I am absolutely in love with this foundation and have been recommending it to everyone I know to at least try once. I am shade 560W and feel like it’s the closet match to my skin since my PUR espresso foundation stick days (I still stand by this product, BTW).
This foundation is also buildable and layers well with cream or powder products like your concealers and blushes. Compared to the two others mentioned, this foundation is heavier than the Eaze Drops but a smidge lighter than the Mented Stick. To my surprise, Rare Beauty also has the most shades out of the three. Altogether, application is made easier with the concealer like doe-foot applicator and can be done with a beauty blender or foundation brush. Definitely going down as an all time fav in my book!
Well friends, that’s all for today! Out of these three, I hope you found at least one new item to try 🙂 If so, let me know in the comments!
Thanks so much for reading. -xo, Azanique <3
