Hey friends hey! I hope each and every one of you had a beautiful week and that your week is off to a great start! I am gearing up for a few weeks of travel with NYC on the itinerary two times in three weeks + local travel. I am so excited for this busy season but am quickly realizing that I am not as “get up and go” ready as I thought. I always pack in a hurry, forget a few things, book parts of my trip last minute and more, so I’m totally looking to get it together. What are your best tips for always staying prepared to travel?
However, no matter how busy my schedule is, I always find time for monthly professional development. Whether this includes brushing up my resume, learning a new skill for the blog or work, signing up for an online training, updating my LinkedIn, attending a networking event or something else in the mix. As a HR Development Instructor, I get the pleasure to teach adults day in and day out that are seeking not only jobs, but careers. I absolutely adore this work because I get to be a resource for an opportunity that has the chance to change their life and their families lives. I keep my own personal “toolbox” of resources to pull from and one of my go-to websites for job seekers is always Monster.com. As a semi-recent grad (just over a year ago) I understand how nerve wrecking and intimidating the job search can be when you’re panicked, moving, unsure of what you want or down right scared about interviewing. No matter what stage you’re in, Monster can provide a bunch of easily accessible resources for you such as a free online resume review, a resume writing service, a super easy-to-use app that lets you apply to jobs with a swipe, career horoscopes, thousands of articles with expert career advice, and so on.
So, I decided to give the free resume assessment tool a try with a resume I created a few months back. Since I’m not currently job hunting, my resume hasn’t been polished in quite some time but this was perfect for me to get pointers on refreshing the overall look and staying in compliance with ATS. Here are my results:
Overall, my resume was in good shape. First, a tracking system would be reading some of my key contact information backwards, which is a total red flag. Secondly, according to the tracking system, it appeared that some of my headers/dividers didn’t read correctly and made my descriptions and titles look like one long sentence – definitely a no. Lastly, the Monster Resume Expert will make a recommendation on what package you could get next to step your resume game up! Since I didn’t upload a cover letter, I was offered a resume + cover letter package. What I love most about this tool is that it is F R E E. If you are in the middle of the job hunt and don’t have a professional resume writer that can help you at any time, this is great resource for getting help quickly. The standard turn around time is 48 hours but I received feedback in less than 24! So friends, how are you continually working on your professional development? Also, if you’ve used this tool in the past, I would love to know how it worked out for you! I can’t wait to read your responses so leave me a comment and let me about the two questions above!
Thanks for much for reading! -xo, Azanique <3
