Happy Wednesday, sweet friends! I am so excited to be back with a new beauty blog post today. Like many of you, I’m a busy millennial with my life constantly pulling me in a ton of different directions and unfortunately, that means that my beauty/skincare routine can be pushed to the side sometimes. However, lately I have been scheduling time out in my schedule in the mornings to get my day started on the right foot with a clean beauty routine for the past few weeks. And y’all, my skin has cleared up significantly + I’m slowly becoming more of a morning person (just give me two of joe, ha!) So , I want to share my tips for keeping your skin clean and fresh all day long with just a few products from my local Rite Aid in Greenville, NC!
| Start with a clean face – As soon as I wake up, even if I don’t have anywhere to be immediately, I wash my face first. Because I tend to sweat during the night, I start with Neutrogena Fresh Foaming Cleanser first since it cleans out all the dirt from sweat, oil and even make-up that may have been left over from the day before.
| Deep purifying mask – About three times a week, while I’m planning out my day and making my coffee, I use the Neutrogena Deep Clean Purifying Clay Cleanser/Mask for 5-10 minutes as a mask and then twice a week as a cleanser. Just recently, I started wearing makeup 5-6 times a week and began to see my pores getting more and more clogged as the week went on. One of the reasons why I go back to this cleanser/mask in particular is because the 2 in 1 formula gives it a dual-purpose to help preserve skin’s essential moisture and maintain soft, without breaking the beauty budget. So for about $8, I essentially have two different products in one. The Deep Clean Purifying Clay Cleanser/Mask is considered a Salicylic Acid Acne Treatment so using it in the morning keeps my skin from breaking out throughout the day
| Water – This one is probably a no brainer for y’all but drinking two-three glasses of water before my day officially starts keep my skin healthy and glowing throughout the day + gives me ahead start on my water consumption goals for the day. Currently, I am trying to drink at least 8 cups a day and usually that goal is a struggle if I don’t have at least two within the first hour of the day.
| Moisturizer with SPF – One of the biggest misconceptions surrounding sunscreen is that people with darker skin, like myself, don’t need to worried about sunburn or sun damage. But y’all, that is the furthest thing from the truth. I definitely have had sun spots on my face and sun damage on my nose several times over the past few years. When I started visit a dermatologist more often, she pointed out those spots on my face and suggested a moisturizer that would hydrate my skin while protecting it from damage. Luckily, Rite Aid carries Neutrogena Healthy Defense daily moisturizer with SPF 50. Regular use of SPF 15 is the standard for most people but since I work from home and frequently work from coffee shops or our park, I’m usually in direct sun during the peak of sunlight hours and believe a higher SPF is best for my skin. This moisturizer is lightweight, non-greasy, it contains Helioplex® Technology that helps protect your skin from harmful UVB-burning rays and UVA-aging rays which can cause premature lines and wrinkles. Before I put on primer, I use this moisturizer under my makeup.
| Face mists or non-greasy foundation – Depending on the season, I alternate between using a face mists throughout the day or a non-greasy foundation. During the winter months, I tend to use rose water facial mists about three times a day to keep my skin hydrated. During the warmer months, I switch to a foundation with less glow + non-greasy to keep my pores from being filled with extra dirt and sweat. As someone with combination skin, this schedule has worked over the past years and work best for me to keep my skin healthy and glowing all day long.
