Good morning, sweet friends <3 After a full month break, I am super excited to share a few life updates with you all! The biggest: I’m moving to Austin! I know, I know (Texas in today’s climate, I get it) however, I am so pumped!
Bookshelf AKA my last obsession
Before I share more about the move, can we get into this bookshelf? I debated for a few months about even needing a dedicated book shelf due to the limited empty space I had in my studio. However, after being influenced for so long by how @graceatwood organized her books, I finally bit the bullet and y’all – I AM OBSESSED. Seriously, cannot stop staring! This spine shelf holds 60-65 of my books and with ROYGBIV styling, it is now a statement piece in my small space. I am extremely impressed: spine book shelf.
The past month
A few weeks ago I shared on Instagram that it was my last day at my job of 2.5 years. I was really excited to move into a new opportunity and felt like the timing was perfect to make a change. After a several rounds of interviews, I was offered a new job; flew to Austin for an all-hands; officially decided to accept and since then, have been living in a whirlwind of figuring out how to move across the country.
Apartment update
If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve probably seen the current battle of my life: finding an apartment! While in Austin, I toured 15ish places to live. Within 24 hours of touring each, they were ALL off the market. Example: Toured condo A at 12:30pm; Toured condo B at 1:45pm; started making lists to apply for both at 3pm; boarded my plane home at 4:45; checked my email at 10pm – both were gone! I was shocked. I knew the housing market was HOT but was surprised at exactly how fast everything moved.
As of today, I still don’t have an apartment in Austin BUT have been able to extend my current lease. I am feeling extremely grateful for my current apartment and the option to stay a little longer. I was so stressed about needing to move ASAP and can now take a second to consider my options.
Overall
Grad school: This week, my second to last semester starts. I took the summer off to wrap my head around life and although I am not feeling 100% ready for classes to begin, I am beyond ready for graduate in the Spring. The countdown is on!
Health/fitness: I’m currently committed to adding walks and yoga back into my routine. I’m hoping for 4x/week 30 minute walks and yoga 2x/week. I would love to be back in fitness studios for pilates and hot classes but since I am usually terrified of being around more than 2 people at a time, at home workouts and walks will have to do.
Faith: Y’all, I have seriously fallen off of daily devotionals and church on Sundays. So far, I’ve added audio daily devotionals to my morning routine while getting ready. The First15 podcast has been my go to since it brings together bible verses, prompts and a song to start the day. I would love to start watching Sunday services again in September.
Book club: Last month, we hit our 1 year anniversary of #LotsofBooksClub! I can hardly believe that it’s been over a year since I started this virtual group and I can’t begin to share how much this bookclub has changed my life. During a time of such sadness, despair and uncertainty, all the lovely people I’ve connected with via book club has given me so much joy! If you’re interested in joining, learn all about it here: #LotsofBooksClub by @lotsofsassblog.
Life is hectic, has been hectic and more than likely, will continue to be hectic for few months. I am, of course, overwhelmed most days and wondering what I have gotten myself into. At the same time, I am feeling very excited for what’s to come! I’m hoping my future self thanks me for the time and energy I’m dedicated to right now.
Well friends, that’s all for today! If you have long distance moving advice, please leave it in the comments! If you’re also going through a hectic time and wondering how in the world everything will come together, rest assured that I’m right there with you and would love to connect.
