Happy Monday, friends! Out of all the amazing things happening in the world today, today is my 25th birthday! Before this day rolled up, I’d been wanting to sit down and rethink some of my goals for 2019 and how I was going about achieving them. Truthfully, I wasn’t being as strategic about the majority of my goals the way I should and figured why not start now? If you are a goal driven person like me, the best advice I can give you is to allow yourself to start over. Even if you mess up, miss goals or fall off track – there’s no time like today for a fresh start.
A fresh start is exactly why I love spring. Besides the days being longer and my favorite fruits coming back into season, everything in the spring is fresh: the air, the flowers, the atmosphere, the wardrobes, the travel – just everything. This is why it’s the perfect time to start fresh with your goals. As a visual person, I pretty much live and die by my paper planner. However, when I come home and when I wake up in the morning, I love the idea of having something bigger that I can erase and re-write on over and over again. This is where my Fathead wall calendar comes in. I needed to change up the look of the empty wall above my bedside table, so I added the Fathead calendar for a quick change that is helping me visualize my goals and plan my month all in one.
As a dry erase calendar, I can continue to use this calendar every month of the year instead of a wall ‘paper’ calendar where you need to discard the pages after each month. If I decide I want to move the calendar to my office, it’s easy to remove and readjust, plus no damage is done to the wall when I take it down. Every night, I check my schedule for the next day, then look at my calendar to see how I’m doing on my weekly goals. Just last week, I had to reset and realign two of my major goals for 2019:
- Work on the blog 3x a week – This could be publishing posts or working diligently behind the scenes on maintenance, updating old content, pitching, and organization.
- Sweat 3x a week – With travel and friends visiting through April, workouts took a major back seat. However, I’m back on my workout schedule of Sunday, Friday and Tuesday or Wednesday.
With my large wall calendar, I can see all the exciting things happening throughout the month and get excited all over again for things such as starting my new job last week, celebrating my best friend’s son’s birthday and taking a trip to Atlanta. So, if you’re looking for ways to refresh your overall life this spring, here are a few:
At home, most of us want tidy and cozy spaces to relax after long days and a place to retreat. How about trying:
1 | Change the candles, essential oils and sprays you’re using for a fresh aroma
2 | Wash all the sheets and pillows cases, then get to bed 30 minutes earlier than usual
3 | Declutter your cabinets, beauty storage space and closet
4 | Dust, sweep, mop, and vacuum every floor – seriously, every floor in your home
5 | Bring in fresh flowers, change simple picture frames and fluff your pillows
If you have home projects you are working towards such as redecorating the bathroom or remodeling the kitchen, each little project will help you move closer to that goal and help you create an overall fresher space.
At work, most of us have quantitative goals of increasing productivity/daily progress and relationship goals of being more kind and helpful to our co-workers.
5 ways you can refresh this goals is:
1 | Review your vacation and PTO hours. Over 50% of Americans don’t use all their vacation days so if this is you, spring is the perfect time to plan a weekend vacay or local road trip
2 | Review your last evaluation and check your status on your action items
3 | Create a list of what you want to accomplish in the next six months
4 | Redecorate your desk, office or workspace with new pictures, fresh flowers, matching pens and notepads
5 | If you work in a large company, try having lunch on a different floor for a few days to meet new co-workers
With friends, we usually either want to make more friends or cultivate better long-term friendships. Here are 5 ways I actively do this:
1 | Reach out to friends you haven’t heard from since the holidays
2 | Join a new local professional or social group
3 | Schedule time in the week to call one friend on the phone
4 | Frame the pictures you promised to frame last summer from the beach
5 | Ask one friend if there is anything you can do for them
Just because January has passed doesn’t mean you can’t start new goals or rework your previous goals. There’s no better time than right now to get a fresh fire underneath your 2019 plan to accomplish everything you want by December 31st. Are there any big goals you need to get back on track for right now? If so, get yourself a calendar, spend one hour making an action plan, then put those actions into motion. I would love to know in the comments how you are cultivating goals this year and staying on track.
You can get the same Fathead dry erase calendar I have here! Thanks so much for reading! -xo, Azanique <3
