Dear friends, I am so excited you are here 💜 If you’re new to the blog, I made the semi-cross country move to Austin back in January and this week, have officially been living in my new home for 6 months. It’s been a serious whirlwind and even though I’m exploring options for making another change (more to come on that another day), I feel so happy to see my home coming together. I shared over on Instagram that my original goal was to finish the entire home in 6 months. There’s nothing too special about the 6 month mark but in my previous apartment, that’s about how long it took for the space to feel like home with the main space finished. However, this house has taken quite a bit longer. Between shipping delays, being exhausted from the move, grad school in the spring along with so much else, the updated timeline for me completing my house is around 7 months. As I’m writing this, my bedroom is a literal disaster that hasn’t been designed yet.

One space that is 95% done is my 1/2 guest bath. This bathroom is t i n y, y’all. I believe it’s M A Y B E 18 sq/ft with a toilet and sink, of course. Because of the size, I felt like I could and should go bold with the design and decor. I also wanted the space to feel like a boutique hotel jewel box when you closed the door. My first and most important choice was picking a wallpaper that could bring the room to life. In the midst of looking at about 10 different websites (who knew there were so many peel & stick wallpaper companies 😬 ), lovevsdesign reached out to gift me quite a bit of product. I jumped on the opportunity and selected the fantastic meadow damask wallpaper exactly how it was sold. You can modify all their designs and even though I didn’t make changes for the bathroom wallpaper, I did modify the colors of my stairway black and white wallpaper.

I knew I needed an equally bold art piece and after getting this cute little lady framed a few months ago, I decided she was the perfect fit. I originally ordered this print for my main bathroom but I wanted her to be seen by everyone who visited my home. I purchased the print via Society6 and had framed at Michael’s. To be honest, framing both this piece and the piece above my bar, was a humbling experience. Who knew framing was only for the rich?! I kid, but seriously, framing costs 3x-4x the cost of the print so I’m glad I was able to grab the art while on sale. The artist is @sidedimes.
Noting the size of the bathroom, once the wallpaper was installed and the one piece of art was hung, I was onto finishing touches. Both the toilet tissue basket and the trash bin were affordable Target and Homegoods finds. They were not the focal point of the design and I felt like I could go low on cost when purchasing. I felt the same way about the light. I knew I wanted a light that felt clean and modern but didn’t want anything too flashy or shiny. I grabbed the new light for $30 and had an electrician install in less than 30 minutes.
I also wanted a wall mounted soap dispenser since previously I had the tiniest liquid soap sitting on the counter. You can probably tell by the before pictures at the beginning of this post that there is basically no counter space on this sink. I literally love this little automatic soap dispenser, however, will warn you about a few things. For me, the dispenser is causing my peel & stick wallpaper to lift due to it’s weight. The piece to install the wallpaper is a square adhesive with a divet that the dispenser slides on to. My suggestion, especially if sticking to wallpaper, is to have nails drilled in the adhesive piece, preferably where there is stud. I was able to do just that with one nail and now, that side is no longer bowing. However, the other side is. I would 100% still recommend the soap dispenser if you want a wall mounted option that doesn’t look like it belongs in a middle school bathroom.
And just like that friends, the half bath is (mostly) done! I love nothing more than walking into this little jewel box several times a day just to see how great it came together. The only thing I would possibly change is my hand towel to be more simple in design with an added monogram. So southern, I know, but I think the addition will be the perfect personalized touch 🙂
If you’ve redone a small space, have you gone bold for impact or kept neutral to breathe? I would love to know below. Also, let me know what you think of this small, but mighty, transformation in the comments. Thanks so much for reading friends! xo, Azanique <3
