Happy Monday, sweet friends! I am so excited to share a short, but sweet, post today all about my primary bedroom refresh. This is the first time in a few years that I’ve had time and energy to design my bedroom and honestly, it took, what feels like, forever to do. Given how long I planned to stay in my current home, I knew I wanted to make the primary bedroom extra special. Not only is it tucked away from the rest of the house but incredibly spacious and floods with tons of light early morning and late afternoon.
Given the size and how much I disliked the agreeable grey walls, I knew that wallpaper was going to be my only option for this room. I took so long to finally settle on an option and just before I made the final decision, one of my favorite peel and stick wallpaper sources, Society Social, launched a brand new line up – talk about perfect timing! I love how delicate and fun this block print pattern was and how the pattern could make a bold statement in the room. I also loved that I could make this room as “adult” or as playful I wanted because block print, in my opinion, is a great backdrop for every type of room, at any age.
I knew I needed to find a contrast color or two in this room because I didn’t want to fall back on my go-to blue and white only spaces. I went totally outside of my comfort zone and decided that red would be the best contrast color in this space then shortly after decided yellow would be my 10%. I pulled out a few pieces that had been collecting dust like these lampshades from Anthro and lamps from Facebook marketplace. I can’t remember where I found the inspiration but I knew after deciding on red as an accent, that I wanted crisp white sheets with a red trim. Shockingly, this purchase took months to complete.
Like with every room, once the bones were finalized, my attention went directly to art. I found the four sketches flanking the bed at a local home decor store sale. They are originals by a local woman artists and fit this room so perfectly. On the opposite wall, near the windows, I finally hung and framed the Scott Hughes painted piece I’ve had for a few years then stack that one with a newer second-hand Whitney McGregor piece. Near the vanity, I added one new piece and one piece I picked up from a vintage shop in Charleston. These two pieces are by Black Charleston based artists and remind me of the playfulness and color of childhood. Every time I look over at this piece I feel so incredibly happy and full of joy.
With a few final touches to style the side tables and the vanity, I “finished” the room refresh. Candidly, the other half of the room is still under construction, one could say, and I’m totally okay with that. Hopefully in the next few weeks I’ll be able tackle that side of the room, declutter my small closet and reorganize all my beauty PR.
Well friends, that’s all for today! Thanks so much for stopping by and checking out my bedroom refresh ♥️ I am so grateful for you! xoxo (Find all my other home updates: on the blog here)
