Hello, beautiful friends and happy March! I am so excited to be back on the blog today and sharing my reads from February. I only read a few books this month but completely loved them all! Don’t forget you can see all my reviews, at any time, in my virtual library here on the blog. Let’s jump in!
The Other Mothers
Thriller | Type: Audiobook
Description: When a young nanny is found dead in mysterious circumstances, new mom, Tash, is intrigued. She has been searching for a story to launch her career as a freelance journalist. But she has also been searching for something else—new friends to help her navigate motherhood.
She sees them at her son’s new playgroup. The other mothers. A group of sleek, sophisticated women who live in a neighborhood of tree-lined avenues and stunning houses. The sort of mothers Tash herself would like to be. When the mothers welcome her into their circle, Tash discovers the kind of life she has always dreamt of—their elegant London townhouses a far cry from her cramped basement flat and endless bills. She is quickly swept up into their wealthy world via coffees, cocktails, and playdates.
But when another young woman is found dead, it’s clear there’s much more to the community than meets the eye. The more Tash investigates, the more she’s led uncomfortably close to the other mothers. Are these women really her friends? Or is there another, more dangerous reason why she has been so quickly accepted into their exclusive world? Who, exactly, is investigating who?
Review: This book was a rec from my friend Grace, @graceatwood / thestripe.com, and I truly l o v e d it! This is a very twisty thriller including a nanny, #RichPeopleProblems and twist+turns until the very last page…literally. The entire time I didn’t expect the killer to be who they were and I was hopeful for the bit of redemption at the end but y’all, if you want to read something truly twist and will keep you on your turns, this book is it!
The Honeymoon Crashers
RomCom| Type: Audiobook
Description: A perfectionist maid of honor and a carefree, surfer-bro best man team up to plan a wedding and end up finding a spark of their own in the first audio original from author duo Christina Lauren, a full-cast sequel to their New York Times bestsellerThe Unhoneymooners.
Ami is determined to break the Torres family wedding curse. Her own disaster of a reception ended with all the guests getting food poisoning, and she left her cheating husband soon after. But even though she’s still processing her own divorce, Ami won’t let her twin sister Olive’s day be anything but perfect. Olive may think she wants a private ceremony in Maui, where she and her fiancé Ethan first fell in love, but Ami knows better and secretly flies the whole Torres family out to surprise the couple. Now she and her meticulously organized binder have less than two weeks to get everything together for the big day, thousands of miles from home.
Enter Brody, Ethan’s best man, who happens to be living in Maui and insists on helping with the preparations. His playfully elaborate schemes and happy-go-lucky attitude are the last thing Ami needs. When sparks start to fly, could it derail all her carefully laid plans?
Equal parts hilarious and swoon-worthy, this full-cast production is your ticket to the ultimate destination wedding, bringing to life both a captivating couple and an unforgettable family. The Honeymoon Crashers is Christina Lauren at their charming, hilarious best.
Review: Y’all, this is one of my favorite RomComs ever. The characters was seriously so fun and although very predictable end, a truly funny book sharing a silly family “wedding curse”, a friend suggested “meet-cute” and characters who are very lovable. I believe this is my first book from this author and I now can’t wait to read more!
The Boss
Thriller | Type: E-book
Description: Sophie Scaife almost ran away once, trading her ticket to college for a ticket to Tokyo. But a delayed flight and a hot one-night stand with a stranger changed her mind, putting her firmly on track to a coveted position at a New York fashion magazine.
When the irresistible stranger from that one incredible night turns out to be her new boss – billionaire and publishing magnate Neil Elwood – Sophie can’t resist the chance to rekindle the spark between them… and the opportunity to explore her submissive side with the most Dominant man she’s ever known.
Neil is the only man who has ever understood Sophie’s need to submit in the bedroom, and the only man who has ever satisfied those desires. When their scorching, no-strings-attached sexual relationship becomes something more, Sophie must choose between her career and heart… or risk losing them both.
Review: I will start by saying this isn’t my normal type of thriller or romcom or bookclub read but I was scrolling through my Kindle Unlimited to find new books one day and came across this. I figured, “hey, why not read a forbidden romance?” and y’all, I was unprepared! This book a was a quick, spicy and fun! I loved how free-spirited Sophie was and how I was able to learn more about the publishing/magazine industry. It is a true forbidden, age gap romance that starts with an assistant meeting their new boss only to discover that they were each others one-night stand several years before after meeting in an airport. There’s about a 15-20 year age gap (Sophie lied about her age upon meeting Neil at the airport) and they go through a classic trope of rich, older man and struggling, young free spirit. Overall liked it and would recommend if you want something quick and spicy (high on the spice level, IYKYK) and there are several other books in the series included a post-release prequel and 2-3 books after this initial one to follow Sophie and Neil’s story.
February was a low reading month for me but I am still reading a few other personal/self-help books: Rich AF, Big Magic and Outliers! I’m hoping to read 4-5 books this month including my March bookclub pick and a few others that have been on my TBR for literally years. If you love all my picks and want more, you can:
