Hi, sweet friends! I hope you all are having the most amazing start to your week and excited for a brand new month, it’s going to be May! It’s also my birthday month so I will be floating on cloud 9 for next 31 days. The past few weeks have felt like whirlwind with traveling, getting settled into a workout routine, finally getting down to 8-10 boxes and completing a full Spring deep clean out and donation marathon in the past 4 weeks (I know, I know, why am I like this?).
And then last week, I realized I never updated y’all on the office. Although this shoot was completed before the bottom layered rug arrived, I figure this is the best time to give an update on the office knowing that I will take a pause on this room for a few months while I work on the living room refresh, dinning room design and cleaning up the outdoor space. Honestly, please pray for my bank account because oh my goodness, who knew things like mulch and dinning chairs were so dang expensive – not I! I am working with a variety of designers and design services on the living room to get a few ideas then will tackle the dinning room mostly alone. All in all, the office is the closest to the finish line it will be for a while and I am so excited for y’all to take a peak of it 💜
ICYMI, I first shared a peak into the office with my thrifted broyhill dresser turned bar. Although I’ve had dedicated home offices in other homes, this space in particular room felt perfect for a little bar. After finishing that project, the first big change that came was the wallpaper A K A the pièce de résistance. I knew even before I moved that this agreeable grey room would be perfect for color and pattern to really separate the space from the rest of the home by making a bold impact. Since I spend so much time in this room and this room has the most windows of any space, I felt fully confident that I could go big and bold and would be pleased with the results for years to come (LOL at me staying in a place for years given I’ve had four addresses in the past three years – let us pray).
The curtains were the next big thing. Finding the perfect matching curtains took far too many nights of scrolling online but I could not be more in love with these semi-sheer blue curtains. They still allow light to shine through while providing some privacy. Outside of the wallpaper, curtains, standing desk, jute rug and thrifted bar, all the other pieces in this room came from my previous homes. My top layered rug, ergonomic chair, pink scallop planter, book cart and whicker shelf were all from my Austin condo, although they were mixed and matched in several different rooms.
Throughout the space, I have several small items I absolutely love like the wedgwood teacups and self-watering peace lilly and the signed & framed Jonathan Green art. Somehow, I’ve kept the fiddle leaf fig alive and it’s the perfect addition to a bright corner that brings a smile to my face everyday.
Altogether, I could not be more excited to see this room “complete”. Even with small updates I want to make like swapping for acrylic curtain rods and reorganizing books and finding permanent window coverings, I feel so happy to be working in this space several days a week. With the light and bold colors, I feel beyond invigorated when I walk into this space and I always miss this safe haven when I have to go in to the office.
Very candidly, I snapped the below picture on my phone on Easter morning. After several days of darkness and rain, the sun rose and the city came back to life. I cried just a little thinking about the madness of the past three years and all the change and now having the space to breathe just a little bit easier.
A candid iPhone pic that made me happy to see the light pouring through and a peek at the layered rugs
As I shared, there is so much more to do! Essentially the entire home given that the office is at 90% completion, living room is at 60%, dinner room is currently at 30% and the rest of the house is probably in the negatives LOL. I don’t have an exact timeline for the entire space but if I can finish at least one room per quarter, I would be extremely happy. The big living room work is next while I tackle the dinning and outdoor space at the same time, piece by piece. In the dinning room my next step is finding wallpaper. I have found so many options I love but given the size of the room, I will need so many more panels than originally expected. It’s truly all a work in progress and although I’ve postponed my spring house warming, I am feeling more confident about a fall or early holiday celebration. All things are looking up!
What’s your favorite part of the new office? I would love to know in the comments. Chat soon, friends <3
