Happy Wednesday, beautiful people! Today on the blog, I am particularly excited to partner with Bright Pink, a national non-profit organization uniquely focused on prevention and early detection. Bright Pink inspires women to make behavior changes that can greatly improve their lives and educates women about the importance of knowing their risk for breast and ovarian cancer. Since both breast and ovarian cancer have history in my family, I try my best to be cautious of my health, body and overall well-being, especially during seasons of stress. Additionally, I strive to get my breast examined twice a year and immediately report any abnormalities that I see. Up until now, I didn’t know exactly how likely my chances were/my intense disposition to both cancers.
At the beginning of October, Bright Pink debuted a new version of its flagship digital tool, Assess Your Risk, to focus on an enhanced user experience and driving toward measurable health outcomes. At first, I was nervous to take the quiz because I know there are certain demographics that put me at a higher risk: being African American (AA women have a 2x higher risk of aggressive Triple Negative breast tumors and 42% higher risk of dying from breast cancer than non-Hispanic white women) and family history (ovarian cancer on maternal side, breast cancer on paternal side). The digital and interactive assessment tool is composed of 19 questions about you, your health and your family. As I went through the questions, I realized there were so many things that I could be doing to stay healthy and other things I’m currently doing currently. Recently, I have been working out about 4 times a week, eating correctly and cutting back on alcohol – yay me. On the flip side, I probably need to cut back on excess sugar and certain birth controls. Having the suggestions sections and “Things We Are keeping Our Eye On” helped break down concerns for me.
Run, jop and hop (or just click here) over to the quiz and join the more than 1 million women who have completed the Bright Pink’s Assess Your Risk quiz. Once finished, you’ll get a PDF/printable version of your results, suggestions, resources and answers to your questions. Use the suggestions as a helpful guide to get on/stay on track with food health, exercise and more.
Be sure to stop by the Bright Pink website, learn all about their focus on health rather than cancer and see some of the great work they are doing for women everywhere. When was the last time you got screened for breast or ovarian cancer? Let me know in the comments. xoxo – Azanique

I don’t know why I’ve never thought to take an assessment like this.. Multiple types of cancer run in my family, and it would be really helpful to know things that I could do for prevention.
