Hey friends, happy Tuesday ๐ The past few days have been such a whirlwind with snow, work being closed, traveling to see friends and more. I got to catch up with some college friends this week and to see some of my NC blogging babes! As hectic as the past few months have been, I was so excited to meet back up with some of my favorite ladies and be able to laugh, eat and enjoy each other. For me, hanging with friends (and accountability partners) is a great way to reset. One of the things I am working on in 2018 is to stress and worry less + not allow myself to get burnt out which includes taking much needed time off and seeing friends. We are just over a week into the new year and I am struggling to keep up with some goals I have set but am crushing other ones, so I am a happy girl! How are y’all doing with your resolutions/goals/ideas?
I am so excited to be sharing some easy fashion tips today! Y’all know that I adore layering and stacking simple pieces together. With the weather in NC reaching record lows, I figured this was a great time to talk about layering basics for winter. The best part about shopping for layers right now is that most stores have their winter pieces on major sale! If you notice, stores such as Target and Nordstrom have already started advertising bathing suits, vacation wear and other spring/summertime essentials. Right now is a great time to get winter layering pieces that you can style all season long for an amazing price. Below, I have rounded up my favorites in the following categories: basics, skirts, turtlenecks, sweaters, jeans, scarves/ponchos and jackets. The easiest pieces for me to layer are basics, sweaters and scarves. With the crazy temps, I have been stacking on several basic pieces and one pop of color/pattern to make my look standout, all while staying as warm as possible. For basics, I invest in 4-5 solid colored tanks; jeans in 3 shades – light, dark and grey; for cardigans, I love basic colors and one printed (such as B&W stripes); for jackets, I recommend one neutral and one colored jacket and to get a casual everyday jacket plus a long style trench/wool jacket for special events; and lastly for scarves/ponchos, invest in colorful/stylish prints that continue to be popular every year.
If you’re trying to build up your professional and personal wardrobes, I always recommend getting comfortable, modest pieces that you can transition through seasons and be happy to wear to work, cocktail hour and church. With building a capsule or minimalist collection, transitional pieces are your best friend and will be worth the investment if you purchase them at a higher price. Quality clothing pieces also go on sale often! So instead of buying the same $2 tank top over and over again, invest in a nicer $8-$20 tank top that you can catch on sale one day that will last you for a few years.
That’s all I have for today but be sure to let me know what your favorite layering pieces are in the comments! Shop all my favorites below -xo, Azanique <3

Layering is crucial for winter! Especially since I’m in school and I have to bundle up for walks to and from class but sometimes the classrooms themselves can be quite warm. Thanks for the tips!

I adore that outfit! Although for the winter we have here, this would be way too cold (Austria, mountains and snow…) but I would love wearing this in summer or spring!

Layerind is essential here in chill Massachusetts. Unfortunatley we usually have to top off our outfits with a massive puffy coat! I wish I could wear cute dresses like this all winter long though!

I love all of your layering tips, especially that necklace and that dress! I’ve tried wearing necklaces like that but I’ll be honest, I always feel like my collar gets wonky or like I’m choking haha. But your outfit is adorable!

Great post! I still haven’t mastered layering, obviously I know how to do it but not in that “cool” way you see on Pinterest.
