I’m seriously trying to figure out how it became August so fast + how the start of the semester is right around the corner. If you missed it, I was recently accepted into graduate school at American University for my masters. *happy dance x1000* With that, I am finishing up a digital marketing certificate and getting my gears aligned to start grad school very soon. Outside of books, tuition, parking passes and the typical logistics, I am most excited for back to college fashion and presentation style. On August 17th, 24th, and 31st Walmart has put together Back to College Events in several cities across the United States for you to stock up and and save on your college essentials. At these events, you can grab discount codes for services such as Uber, have access to dorm shopping checklists and more. So, here’s how to get involved:
-
- Head here to find a store near you participating. All you have to do is add your zip code and your nearest participating stores will pop up.
- Get prepared with a list of needs. Shopping for the dorm? Don’t forget the shower caddy and surge protectors. Shopping for your apartment? Don’t forget storage containers, bins and comfy pillows to lounge on after class.
- Take advantage of pre event offers from places like Uber. On the same page as the event locator, you can get a $20 voucher, depending on the university you attend, to cover transportation there and back. As someone who didn’t have a car my first year of college, I totally wish Uber was as big as it is now back then. This is also a great way to not have to worry about parking or traffic that day.
- Check to see if the event falls on tax-free weekend for your state! If so, this is the perfect time to stock up on college essentials and not have to worry about tax! With Walmart’s everyday low prices to fit all budgets, this is a way to maximize those college gift cards and shopping budgets.
- Attend the event and enjoy! I went to our local event freshman year of college and met so many people who lived in my dorm room that I eventually hung out with later. Depending on your university, they may arrange a bus or shuttle to take you to the event. That will vary by university so check before hand.

Now, quickly to outfit deets: I found these burnt orange paper bag waist-tie pants for only $12! Seeing that these style pants retail from $35-$65, I was just as shocked as you are reading this that Walmart carried them. They are actually cropped capri style which is perfect for transitioning seasons. Next I was not at all surprised to find this comfy white v-neck to tuck into my pants and to keep as a layering piece when the season cools down for only $5. Lastly, it came time to find a good class tote bag. Since I usually have e-books or print outs, I don’t need to carry a backpack or large bag with a ton of compartments. I found this adorable tote (so nice I got it twice AKA picked up 2 colors) for an everyday low price of only $5. The straps are thick enough that they don’t dig into my skin but thick enough to sit comfortably on my shoulder. So if you’re keeping up, that means the tee, pants & bag are altogether $22 with several ways to continue styling each throughout the semester and beyond. If you need a checklist to get started with shopping, Walmart has categories for all your needs here. Have you already started preparing for the semester? If so, what have you picked up recently from Walmart? Let me know in the comments! Thanks so much for reading y’all! -xo, Azanique <3

I was just in my local Walmart the other day, and was yet again shocked by the number of cute clothing items I saw in the women’s section. It’s crazy to me how much they’re upping their game in that way. Love the outfit you put together AND the fact that they’re running this BTS event!
