Un•done /ˌənˈdən/: Synonyms: unfulfilled, incomplete, unaccomplished & unfinished
Happy Monday y’all! It’s safe to say that as we shift into autumn where days get shorter, semester course loads gets greater and temperatures get cooler, it is much easier to give up when things aren’t going the way you want. However, when you’re overwhelmed, underpaid (usually) and just simply over it, here are some words to keep you going:
I am doing the best I can
You know you are. If you don’t think so, find a way to work harder. If you know you are, realize that your efforts will show that. If you put 100% into everything you do, you will never have to worry that you aren’t doing enough. You’ll be doing the best that you can. That is all that matters.
I am in control
Okay, so maybe you aren’t the CEO of your company that you want to change. That’s okay. Even as an employee, you are in control. As a student, you are in control. And as a human, you are in control. Life is only 10% what happens to us, but 90% what we make of it.
I am important to me
Sometimes, we get so caught up in what others think of us, that we forget what we think of us. You should be the most important in you life. This doesn’t mean that you don’t love others or think of them as important. However, it means that you care enough about you, to make yourself a priority.
Failure doesn’t define me
We have all been there. You’re up until 2 am writing a paper that you get a D+ on or spend all morning working on a case, only for your computer to die seconds before court. It sucks, yes. But it is a minor bump in the road. That one time mistake or mini failure doesn’t define you.
I deserve to be happy
This is something I’ve seen my friends struggle with and have talked to many of you about. You deserve happiness just like everyone else. There’s more than enough happiness to be found in the world. And, just because someone else is happy with more than you have, doesn’t mean you can’t be happy too. Comparison is the thief of joy, y’all.
I am closer than I was yesterday
Yes, yes you are. So you only went to the gym 2x this week instead of 3x or you’ve only saved $50 instead of $100. Okay. Recognize that you didn’t reach your goal, but know that your goal or checklist, do not have the final say. You do. You’re closer than you were yesterday, last week and last year. Those milestones alone are something to be proud of.
I am a good person
You are. You would not have made it this far if you weren’t. Yes, you are human and yes, you make mistakes. That doesn’t make you less “good” than anyone else. You are still a good person if you forget a birthday, honk your horn at someone during rush hour or drop your coffee in the Starbucks drive-thru.
I will find joy in today
Some days are hard, I know. But, I am a firm believer that you can find joy in every day. Even when it is storming out and you’re rushing late to work, there is joy in having a car to drive. There is joy in getting to wear your new rain boots. There is joy that will come when the sun shines again and the rainbows appear. Every day may not be good, but there is good in every day.
I can do this
For my college readers, I know it’s getting to the point in the semester where all motivation has gone out the window and will not return until January aka start of Spring 2017 semester. Just remember, you can do whatever you set your mind to. I’m sure some of you didn’t think you would make it to college, make it through college or graduate college. But you did and you still can. Don’t let go of the reason why you started.
I am enough
That is it. You just said it. You said it because you are in control and you can do this. It is that simple. The sooner you realize it, the sooner you will be at peace with yourself. Don’t allow past mistakes, relationships, lifestyles or anything else, make you believe you are not enough. Because you are.
I hope everyone has a great Monday and an eventful week. Keep kicking-ass and doing good!
